At the Zythos Beer Festival in Leuven (22nd and 23rd of April 2017), the Omer Vander Ghinste Brewery will present a unique and one-time brew: Cuvée Des Jacobins Prestige. It’s a 100% foederbeer, fermented and matured for 18 months in oak casks from the Cognac-region (= foeders).
To create this special beer, they brewed a beer of spontaneous fermentation, let it cool down during one night in the open-air cooling vessel in the brewery tower and then pumped it into the oak barrel. There it has been fermenting and maturing for 18 months. The Cuvée Des Jacobins Prestige is manually filled in kegs, directly from the foeder, to maintain it’s unique characteristics.
Quality Manager Sam Quartier describes the Cuvée Des Jacobins Prestige as a fruity, complex and lightly sour beer of spontaneous fermentation. It contains an alcohol volume of 7,6% and has a beautiful amber color.
The brewery also has a 'Cuvée Des Jacobins' in her range, but that beer is made with another basic recipe. Also, Cuvée Des Jacobins has an alcohol volume of only 5.5%. The taste of the Prestige is softer and rounder, but also a lot more fruity.
The brewery, which celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, never distributed this beer on the Belgian market before. The Zythos Beer Festival is one of the best-known beer festivals for Belgian and foreign beer connoisseurs, so it is undoubtedly the ideal place to introduce Cuvée Des Jacobins Prestige to the public.
