TASTE
Golden blond and wonderfully clear, this tripel makes a good impression at first glance. Sparkling bubbles culminate in a thick, creamy white head. What stands out immediately is the pleasantly fruity aroma’s of this beer. Right in the first scent, you can detect the hop notes of orange, mandarin, and grapefruit. These are enriched by some subtle fruity yeast aromas, including peach and apricot. When you take a sip, you taste a nice bitterness.

The full-bodied beer is really a blend of the fresh hoppy character and the full sweetness of a tripel. Although the beer has an alcohol content of 10%, it offers a balanced taste experience. The malt profile creates a warm, round body, while the citrusy bitter notes add a refreshing fruitiness. With a soft mouthfeel the beer flows into a mild bitter finish.

FOODPAIRING

Guidelines:
A tripel is a very food-friendly beer style, which means it can be paired with a wide variety of dishes. For this to work, the balance between the sweet and bitter flavors in the beer must be well-balanced, and that’s definitely the case in the Ypra Hoppy Tripel. Hops tend to stimulate appetite, making this hoppy tripel an excellent choice as an aperitif. Its fresh, fruity aromas will enhance many light and soft flavors—think of smoked salmon with sour cream and spring onion, or scallops with pea mousse and fresh mint. Additionally, the fact that you have a refreshing hoppy beer and also a full-bodied, sweet-bitter tripel in your glass means it pairs effortlessly with a wide range of appetizers and dishes.

Keep in mind, however, that this is a 10% ABV beer. Its rich body, full mouthfeel, and sweet alcoholic notes can easily overpower delicate flavors. So, avoid pairing it with a light starter or main course, such as green asparagus and a poached egg.

The key is balance between the flavors of beer and dish—you want to be able to taste both in the pairing. Because of its full-bodiedness, this beer can also pair well with bolder and richer flavors, such as a grilled steak with chimichurri. It also pairs exceptionally well with various cheeses, particularly with strong washed-rind cheeses.

Appetizers / Bites:

  • Grilled shrimp and chorizo skewers
The crisp bitterness of the hops refreshes the chorizo completely, while its fruity notes beautifully complement the mild flavor of the shrimp.

  • Crispy sweet chili cauliflower florets
The hoppy triple tempers the spiciness of this snack and refreshes the earthy flavor of the cauliflower. The beer’s fruitiness also accentuates the rich flavors of the appetizer.

  • Salad with roasted chickpeas and avocado in a sesame-honey dressing
To accompany this salad, with the rounded flavors of chickpeas and avocado, you need a full-bodied beer. The fresh, fruity hop aromas of mandarin and grapefruit perfectly enhance the flavors of this salad.

Main course:

  • Indonesian beef rendang stew
Pair this deliciously spicy Indonesian stew made with beef and coconut milk with this hoppy tripel, and your taste buds will be treated to a delightful harmony of aromas and flavors.

Cheese:

  • Munster
The hops in the beer contrast nicely with the pungency of this washed-rind cheese and refresh its salty notes, while the beer’s full flavor elevates the cheese’s taste completely.
